Jasper Hubbert Memorial
2007 TUMBLEWEED CLASSIC
Saturday, August 11

hosted by the Lubbock Bicycle Club

Welcome to the website for the third annual Tumbleweed Classic hosted by the Lubbock Bicycle Club. The Tumbleweed Classic has blown around West Texas and found a new setting. The routes for the Tumbleweed Classic will be based out of Quitaque and Caprock Canyons State Park in the Texas Panhandle. Rides of 28, 56, and 104 miles will be available with SAG and rest stops.

This tour offers the best scenery in Texas, bar none. The routes are challenging, and the tour is two weeks before the Hotter N Hell Hundred, so this will be a great training ride prior to the HHH. However, the 104 mile Tumbleweed route is considerably tougher than the HHH due to the hills and the climb up the Caprock. So, be prepared or consider one of the shorter routes.

Jasper Hubbert

On September 2, 2006, Jasper Hubbert, a founding member of the Lubbock Adult Bicycle Club, passed away at age 95. Not only did Jasper help organize the club which, over the last 40 years, has evolved into the West Texas Cycling Association, but he also was recognized as being the oldest active rider. Jasper was one of the original 75 riders in the first Easter Hill Country Tour in 1974. Offering counsel and companionship, Jasper was an inspiration to all who rode with him. To honor his memory, the West Texas Cycling Association is dedicating the annual Tumbleweed Classic as the Jasper Hubbert Memorial Ride. May we all enjoy the grand sport of cycling as Jasper did: a lifelong quest.
